Notice for COVID-19

Notice for COVID-19

The staff at Newmarket Dental Group, and I am sure many of you, are very concerned about the Coronavirus, Covid-19 and its impact on our lives. Today (Sunday 22/03/20) the Dental Council and the Ministry of Health have issued the following statement about providing dental treatment across New Zealand at this time:

“However, in the national interest the Dental Council and the Ministry of Health together strongly recommend that all non-essential and elective dental services, particularly those generating aerosol, should be suspended immediately to reduce the risk of community spread, including to yourself, your staff and your patients. All emergency treatment* and relief of pain should continue with appropriate precautions taken.

*Emergency treatment includes oral-facial trauma, significant infection, prolonged bleeding or pain which cannot be managed by medications.

Together as an oral health community we can all play our part, by working through these challenges and uniting against COVID-19.”

In the interests of keeping everyone, patients, dentists, hygienists and staff healthy we must follow this recommendation, this means that nearly all dental treatment (as it all generates aerosols), including examinations and hygiene visits will need to be postponed and rescheduled to a later date. Additionally, we are required to screen all patients with appointments to assess risk of exposure to the virus and to determine if treatment is possible at the practice. Please bear with us as we must comply with these directives. As yet we do not know how long these measures will be in place but we anticipate a minimum of 2 to 3 months.

We will contact those of you with existing appointments to reschedule over the next week. If you have a dental problem or if one arises please contact us by email, or call the practice on 09 5200734. We will arrange for one of our dentists to call you for assessment of the problem and if an appointment is required and possible. Please do not come to the practice until further notice unless you have received confirmation from us. We will also update our Facebook page with further information as it comes to hand.

For those of you requiring essential or emergency treatment we are following the Dental Council Practice Standards and other instructions to deliver safe dental treatment to those we are permitted to treat.

Thank you for your understanding. We hope to see you all safe once this terrible pandemic has passed and normal life resumes.
